Zlín



Zlín (Czech pronunciation: [zliːn]), from 1949 to 1989 Gottwaldov, is a city in the Zlín Region, southeastern Moravia, Czech Republic, on the Dřevnice River. The development of the modern city is closely connected to the Bata Shoes company. Due to Bata's managerial excellence Zlín became famous for the company's extraordinary social scheme developed after the First World War and its modernist urbanism.

ZOO and Chateau Zlín - Lešná

Baťa’s Skyscraper


Baťa’s Skyscraper (Zlin's skyscraper, Building No. 21) is a skyscraper in Zlín, the Czech Republic. It is skyscraper, which is 77,5 metres high and has sixteen floors. It was the administration building of the shoemaking factory Bata Shoes. Now it is headquarters of the Zlín Region. This building was one of the first high-rise buildings in Europe - the second tallest after Boerentoren. The building is in constructivist architecture and was designed by Vladimír Karfík.
The building was built between 1937 and 1938 at the order of Jan Antonín Baťa.

Baťa Canal


Baťa Canal (in Czech Baťův kanál or Průplav Otrokovice-Rohatec) is a navigable canal on Morava river in the Czech Republic. The water canal was built during 1934-38 and today it serves mainly for recreational cruises.
Now the Bata-Canal is the used waterway important for transport, class 0.
Without licence, it is possible to drive small vessels up to the engine output of 20 kW, which are designed only for buoyancy navigation with the maximum speed of 20 km/h. That means that a person above 18 years of age is allowed to drive the vessel without a special licence; the hire-office staff will only provide training to handle the watercraft. The Bata-Canal is about 60 km long now (from Otrokovice to Sudoměřice). It goes either on the Morava River, or on artificially excavated canal sections. The Canal is navigable from the town of Kroměříž to the town of Hodonín.

Castle Lukov



Around 3km from the village of the same name, not far from Zlín, Lukov Castle is one of the largest medieval structures in Moravia: a ruined Gothic castle with a surviving pillared bridge and entrance gate. Probably built in the early 13th century and enlarged over the next two hundred years, the castle was repeatedly besieged and captured; at the end of the 18th century it was abandoned and pillaged for building stone.

Zlín Manor house



According to the archaelogical explorations the commencements of the building go down to the second half of the 15th century. Themanor-house had been reconstructed several times, its last reconstruction was realized at the beginning of the 20th century. Themanor -house was purchased by the town of Zlín in the year 1929. In the building there are the following permanent exhibitions placed: The Monumental Hall of F. Bartoą. Across Five Continents with Engineers Hanzelka and Zikmund. The Film Studio of Zlín - From the Publicity to The Production For Children. The building also serves for short-term exhibitions, lecture cycles, study and scholarly activities.

Shoe museum Zlín



It is located in the office block of a. s. Svit, in the centre of the town. The collec-tion fund follows the development of wearing the shoes, namely from the oldest time period of the Czech history to present days. The oldest originals have dated from the end of the 16th century. There is also a unique collection of foreign nations shoes. The shoes collection of the Ba»a firm-s produce follows the develop ment of the production, beginning from an establishment of the factory in the year 1894 as late as the year 1945.

Castle Malenovice


It had been founded in the second half of the 14th century, and was reconstructed several times, thanks to which a Renaissance residence of a mansion type, later modified in a baroque manner, was built. In the year 1953 the Museum of Southeastern Moravia of our time has obtained the building. A part of the castle and the donjon have been opened up for the public. The following expositions are located here: The Castles of Southeastern Moravia, The primeval times of South-eastern Moravia, The Šternberks family in Malenovice and Pohořelice 1804 - 1945.

Holy Hostýn




Not far from Zlín is Hostýn hill which has a history of two thousand years of settlement. It was at the ramparts near the top of this memorable hill, that the local population was saved from the invading Tartars. The spot has become a place of pilgrimage.
The Baroque church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary remained an active place of pilgrimage even throughout the years of the communist regime when such acts of worschip were strongly discouraged. In 1982, the Pope declared the chapel a minor basilic.
